KMR Kabel-Metall-Recycling GmbH has one of the largest and high-performing compact plants for dismantling both cleanly segregated as well as mixed Al and Cu cables with integrated light-heavy metal separation and can recycle in combination with scrap shears as well as a ring shredder plant in a BlmSchG (Federal Immission Control Act) approved system including all types of earth and oil cables in an economical manner.
After a manual pre-sorting (removal of disturbing foreign materials/sorting of cables containing Pb and Fe/bitumen) the purchased old cables are fed into a universal macerator and undergo a preliminary maceration. Any iron present is separated by several overband magnetic separator levels. The pre-macerated material is carried to the cutting mill in a first cycle through different conveyor stretches, conveyor units, storage bunkers and scales and, in a second cycle to further cutting mills. In both cycles, the material is cut until the valuable substances (copper, aluminium) are released from the insulation to such an extent that a cleanly segregated recovery of the individual components (valuable substances and waste) is ensured by the subsequent separation through different mechanical separation processes (sieving and flow classification).
The slitting of earth cables (17 04 10) and CuAl mass cables (17 04 11) takes place on a separate place fitted with an oil separation system and on slitting machines especially designed for this purpose. The objective of slitting is the recovery of valuable substances such as copper, aluminium and lead.
